Benin

Information for Patients
In Benin, there are 48 public hospitals, and more than two-thirds of those are within 2 hour travel time, important for access to emergency care. The private sector provides a large part of medical services available in Benin. Of those private providers, approximately 65% of residents pay for their services in full.

Information for Health Care Professionals
Approximately 8% of medical professionals provide both public and private services. Those seeking to practice medicine in Benin require a Doctor of Medicine Diploma.

Information for Travelers
Travelers are strongly urged to purchase comprehensive travel insurance and can expect to pay upfront if hospital consultation or treatment is required. Full vaccinations are also recommended as the risk of contracting many diseases are high due to poor sanitation and wildlife/insects.
