Patients should not visit the British Indian Ocean Territory. There are no medical facilities in the territory and rescue facilities are limited. You are granted permission to visit if and only if you are on pre-authorized official duty and have provided adequate travel health insurance to cover the cost of medical treatment.

Information for Travelers 
The British Indian Ocean territory is not a tourist destination. It is illegal to enter some of the islands as they are nature reserves. Access to Diego Garcia is tightly controlled and certain restrictions put in place.
